The Fake News Generation

In our society it seems that every day we're bombarded with hundreds of news articles through the vast array of media outlets. From Facebook posts, Instagram posts, to the home page of your web browser, we see thousands of news posts daily.  But how can we sift through the mess to find the real, honest news?

I would first like to say that everyone sees the world through their own set of lens based on past experiences, how they were raised, etc. That being said what I will be writing is all based on my life and the lenses that I wear. These comments are just opinion.

Fake news these days seems to be a pretty subjective and hot topic. We live in an era where we have access to so much information, and it's so hard to figure out what is true. Some news outlets I believe go out of there way to only post credible news, but when drama pays we have to decipher all of the news outlets against each other to find the real news.

Lately there has been a bunch of circumstances where CNN has been on the chopping block as of late for their so-called manipulative articles and means of expressing news. One thing that I saw recently was a picture of a teenager who was called out as a "Crisis actor." This crisis actor was claiming to be one of the students who were involved in the recent Florida shooting. I have little information on this, but these are the things that I'm discussing. The fact that a crisis actor is a real occupation shows the state our country is in. That is very sketchy and wrong. These types of things have caused distrust in our media. To be very honest, this is probably exactly what we needed.

For so long we have had our full trust in these news outlets, and now we are questioning the honesty of them. We now have the means to figure out correct information for ourselves. Even if that means we have to go back to the physical libraries to read historical accurate texts to find honesty.  My challenge for you, the reader, is to figure out honest news for yourself. Make sure you're reading real news before you share that post, or spread that fake news.

The great historian and professor, Daniel J. Boorstin once said, “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.”

Don't let ignorance plague your life. Be informed!
